An Archaea summer

Posted by Fana on 6 June, 2013.

A few weeks have passed since our last tournament match, and I’m sorry to have to announce that it will be a while until the next one. As I’m sure many of you have heard already, eagleye, ray and Tane have decided to leave us to play with their respective national brethren in [unnamed-french-team] and Saunamen. I’m disappointed that I won’t be playing with them in the future, but we’ve had a great run over the past year and I wish them all the best of luck in the future.

This has, however, left Archaea in a tough spot. With only five players left on the roster, and few appetizing recruitment alternatives, we’re not in any shape to compete at the moment. Couple that with a bit of weariness with the game, a dab of wanting to spend time on other things, and big chunk of funtimez out in the sun, we’ve decided to take a summer hiatus. That means we won’t be practicing or participating in any competitions this summer; at least not as Archaea.

Tropical island, clear blue water and open skies. Could this be any more stereotypical?

Summer hellz yeah! I totally didn’t not steal this picture from google images.

So, find yourselves a sweet beach, stick up a parasol, lie down and enjoy the summer. Or don’t. Does it look like I care? Maybe we’ll be back with a boom when the cold autumn nights come creeping (or maybe we won’t!).

An Archaea Website

Posted by Fana on 20 April, 2013.

The time has finally come to unveil our website, which has been stuck in development for way too long. It isn’t quite as grand as we had originally planned, but unfortunately none of our initial concepts and plans panned out. In the end I decided to just stitch this together quickly, so at least we would have somewhere to put our information. Hopefully the design of this website will improve significantly in the future.

The results page should be of particular interest to NS2 enthusiasts. On it, you will find links to recordings of all our streamed matches, including some amazing games like the final of the ESL Launch Tournament live in Cologne against Exertus or the Semi-final of the Logitech NS2 Tournament against Nexzil. An easy way to catch up on the great teams of the past and present.

In more recent news, we recently returned from Cologne, after defeating Nexzil 5-0 in the NSL Invitational and bringing home $2500 and hardware from Logitech. The event was great fun and we’re obviously happy with our performance. There was also a lot happening outside of the actual match itself. Meeting the other Archaea guys again was always going to be a highlight, but it was also great getting to know the Nexzil guys. Finally getting to meet b1, whom I played NS1 with way too many years ago, was a personal highlight for me. There’s no way a small news post like this will do the experience justice, so I’ll leave it at that for now. Hopefully I’ll have time to write a big post just about that weekend sometime soon.

Archaea bringing home the bacon

Oversized symbolic checks are the best kind of checks.

Next up for us is a series of tough matches, including an ENSL semi-final, an ESL semi-final and the final of the TSG tournament. Should be exciting, but I’ll leave the details for a future news post about these matches.

In addition to this website, we also have a lovely irc channel: #archaea on irc.quakenet.org. Stop by, say hi and idle!
